2008/277: "The important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as to discover new ways of thinking about them."

2008/277:

Sir William Henry Bragg

These (the DVD and catalog on the Exhibitoin) would be the items I purchased after seeing the "Body Worlds" exhibit currently at the Telus World of Science in Edmonton. This is an exhibition where science and art truly do mix.

I had heard from several others that it was a very worthy exhibit to see, and so I did with my eldest son. It was awesome! I was amazed, however, to read in the guest book at the end of the display a persons comment from today - they said (basically as I did not write it to make reference to, so I am summarizing what I recall) that the displays are made up, and science will have us believe what they want us to believe.

I find that bizarre, having worked with humans and disease and illness all my life. Having seen anatomy and studying it along the way. I guess there will always be skeptics. The display shows healthy plastinated human bodies (and parts) that show what organs should look like, and too some that have had illness, and even self-induced illness (such as smoking and obesity). I guess the skeptics might be those that do not want to admit their bad habits are actually causing them ill health?

Well... whatever. As long as people don't take good care of themselves my career is safe from becoming redundant. I do try and live a healthy life, I try to promote it with my patients and my kids, as well as others in my life... but all in all, we need to make our own choices and face the results of them.
